April is everything month!

Ah, April has finally arrived and along with lovely flowers comes tons of networking and PR opportunities in Oklahoma Libraryland. As we are all bustling about preparing for the OLA Conference in Tulsa our thoughts may turn to National Library Week activities we have planned. Our libraries may also have plans to celebrate National Poetry Month. Perhaps an open-mic night at the library? Well, as you are preparing for all of these activities there is one more "festivity" to incorporate -- Copyright Awareness Month! Let me hear a --- yeah? According to the official website:
The purpose of Copyright Awareness Month is to help create a greater awareness about copyright in the United States, especially among young people, about the protection of and use of creative works. Copyright Awareness Month provides the members of the Copyright Society and other interested professionals in the copyright fields the opportunity to speak in local schools, universities, associations and other venues about the importance of copyright to the creative arts.
So as you sit in your library, obeying all food and drink policies, listening to your ipod, and reading the works of your favorite poet (so as to better woo your lover) just remember to ask permission before reproducing those words into writing -- or else your love may be visiting you in copyright-prison (which I hear is worse than debtor's prison) ;-) .
