Ardmoreite.com: Taming the wild frontier of the Internet to be addressed 04/18/04: "At 7 p.m. on April 27, Bill Young from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries will be at the Chickasaw Regional Library System in Ardmore to present 'The Internet: It's a Wild West Town Without a Marshal!'
Young will address various concerns people may have while surfing the Internet, such as spam, viruses or hackers, to name only a few.
Young describes his program from a humorous viewpoint:
'With lotsa opportunity out here in this new frontier, you have to watch out for gunslingers and quicksand! Spam Bandits are 'round every corner, ready to flood yer inbox with worthless junk! Virus Outlaws are just waitin' to take you over and mess up your 'puter! Thar's gold out there, but there's plenty of fool's gold, too! How do you know that infermation you 'git' on the Web is right or not? Careful of that Internet Doc! He'll diagnose you without a proper check up and 'git' you to buy the latest tonic. And don't stay at the poker table too long! You could lose yer shirt, that's fer sure!'"
*Note: Bill Young received the Library Service Award this year at the OLA Annual Conference in Tulsa.
