BBC NEWS | UK | 'UK libraries out of use by 2020'

BBC NEWS | UK | 'UK libraries out of use by 2020': "Libraries have been failing the public by providing them with often old and incomplete collections, a charity says.
Its report claims that visitor numbers have halved since 1984 and, if this trend continues, people will stop using UK libraries in the next 20 years."

Of course we've all heard these stories before (below are just a few I found searching ERIC via EBSCO)--Do you think there is any danger of public libraries being "out of use" in the US of A? And if so is it the libraries' fault or the fault of society for not funding libraries more? Or is it because everything is on the internet. (and if the latter is the case then try to find all the articles I've listed below, full-text, from a website for free)
