The New York Times > Technology > Circuits > Incoming: Letters to the Editor: Two different editorial replies to a NYT article concerning the Wired Library

Excerpt 1: "The shift of focus in today's public libraries from books to computers and the Internet is a disaster for those of us holding the master of library and information science degree. Because most patrons now use libraries primarily for computer access, the librarian's profession has disintegrated into little more than computer kiosk sign-in clerk."

Expert 2: "From 4,000 handwritten pre-Internet reserves filled per month, the requests filled through the Internet-based reserve service increased to 40,000 in the first full year of operation and later to almost 80,000 per month."
