KOTV - The News on 6 - Oklahoma Schools Allowing Online Courses Nearly Doubles

KOTV - The News on 6 - Oklahoma Schools Allowing Online Courses Nearly Doubles: "State education officials say the number of school districts allowing students to take courses on the Internet nearly doubled during the past year.

A survey found 171 of the state's 540 districts allow students to earn course credit online, up from about 90 a year ago.

Phil Applegate with the Education Department says many people feared Internet-based courses at the beginning, but are becoming more comfortable with the concept.

The survey also found nearly every district subscribes to a high-speed Internet connection, 98% of the school libraries have Internet access and 86% of schools have a computer lab.

Also, schools have one computer for every 4.89 students, better than the national average of one computer for every five students. "
