Associate Dean
for Research and Instruction Services. Tenure Track.
Oklahoma State University is a comprehensive research and land grant university offering more than 200 academic programs with state, national, and international impact. The Stillwater campus enrolls 20,000 students. The Library, with holdings of more than 2.6 million volumes and documents, is a member of the Association of Research Libraries and the Greater Western Library Alliance, and participates in the OCLC system as a member of AMIGOS. It uses the Voyager library management system and administers systems for a consortium of eleven other Oklahoma libraries. The Library is a regional depository for the Federal Depository Library program as well as a Patent and Trademark Library. Library faculty hold academic rank.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Associate Dean for Research and Instruction Services will direct the Library's efforts to actively support the university's research, teaching and outreach mission by enhancing collections, developing collaborative initiatives with teaching and research faculty, increasing the reach of the Library's instruction program, and developing innovative services. This position has line administrative responsibility for all public services including circulation, interlibrary loan, document delivery, reserves, library instruction, reference services, Government Documents, Special Collections and University Archives, Library Annex (remote storage facility), Architecture Library, Mary L. Williams Curriculum and Materials Library, and Veterinary Medicine Library. In addition he/she oversees all collection development activities. The Associate Dean serves on the Library's senior management team and participates in the formulation of goals, budget development and allocation, human resources, policy and procedure development, space planning, communication, outreach and fundraising. This is one of three associate deans reporting directly to the Dean of Libraries. This position requires an energetic and experienced manager with strong leadership skills and a commitment to providing superior services for today's faculty and students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

a Master's degree from an ALA accredited program;
a minimum of five years of progressively significant and relevant professional experience in a large research, university or public library;
effective written and oral communication skills;
excellent analytical skills;
creative and innovative problem-solving skills;
the ability to work successfully within a team environment.
Candidates should show evidence of successful management experience and leadership ability; demonstrate a strong commitment to service excellence; possess the knowledge and understanding of key issues and trends in public and information services, information technology, academic libraries, and public higher education; a commitment to the professional development and training of staff at all levels; and a record of research, publications, presentations, or service to the profession.

Desired:

Desired qualifications include a second advanced degree, experience in a land-grant institution, and experience in an ARL Library.

SALARY:

$75,000 minimum for 12 months. Academic rank dependent upon qualifications and prior experience.
