Guymon Daily Herald Online: "With the possiblitlity of the Guymon Public Library receving a sizable increse in funding, Rachel Sides, Library Director of Guymon Public Library, hopes area residents will contact their representatives, Wednesday, April 13, Library Legislation Day.

In years past public, libraries that are part of a library system receive much larger sums of money from the state than public libraries which are not in library systems.

'Guymon received $5,800 in funding last year while libraries which were in library systems such as as the Tulsa City/County Library System, received $23,000,' Sides said.

Proponents are hoping to equalize the amount of funding libraries receive. Since many public libraries in the northwestern region of Oklahoma and the center of Oklahoma are not in public library system, they have not receive funding in the same amounts as members of library systems.

Oklahoma's public libraries are asking the Legislature to approve an additional $840,481 for the Oklahoma Department of Libraries to increase state aid and make it more uniform by applying the same formula presently used to municipal libraries.

The cost of the additional funding is less than 25 cents per citizen."
