“Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings” will take up temporary residence in the Downtown Library starting Sunday and continuing through June 15. The exhibit is free to the public and will open officially during the 14th annual Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Program at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Plaza.
The exhibit includes multiple panels with photographs, newspapers, posters and books, as well as four audio/visual programs and two interactive computers featuring news reels and testimonies. The exhibit also documents how the book burnings “have continued to resonate in American politics, literature and popular culture,” according to a press release, such as through films and TV shows tackling censorship themes and footage of a public burning of books in the “Harry Potter” series.
