NewsOK.com | Metro area libraries launch wireless Internet: "The atrium of the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library always draws Carson Capps to the same spot. Monday morning he was relaxing at 'his' table in the atrium when he spotted a laptop computer in use nearby.

'Now that's what you need,' he said. 'Is that a wireless computer?'

Told that it was and that the Metropolitan Library System began offering wireless Internet services Monday morning, Capps pondered the possibilities the service offers.

'I've talked to friends about it,' he said. 'You could sit right here and relax and enjoy the day. I always sit at this table, anyway. It's kind of like a favorite spot of mine.'

Capps, 32, enjoyed a day off at the library Monday, where he relaxed in the atrium and surfed the Internet at one of the many desktops offered to users free of charge. However, the library limits patrons to 90 minutes a day. 'I guarantee if I had a laptop I would use it,' Capps said, 'because it would eliminate the need to have to reserve a computer.'

Monday, the Metropolitan Library System launched its free wireless Internet service to visitors who bring their own equipment into any of its 12 area branches. At the downtown branch Monday morning, few visitors seemed aware of the new service.

Spokeswoman Kim Terry said officials anticipate the service will draw a mix of business people and students into the libraries to use the service."
