NewsOK.com | Library introduces contest

NewsOK.com | Library introduces contest: "

Oklahoma County fourth- and fifth-graders will get a chance to explore the possibilities of teleporting through words, pictures and poetry in the 2005 Metropolitan Library Writing Contest.

The contest will run through Oct. 7, using the book, 'Cryptomania' by Edith Hope Fine and Kim Doner.

LaVetta Dent, the library system's children's services coordinator, said Doner, a Tulsa author and illustrator, provided the illustrations for 'Cryptomania,' and also will serve as the guest author/illustrator for this year's contest.

Dent said children are invited to write and illustrate short stories and pen poems about 'teleporting into' various times, cultures and places, from the past or into the future.

Three prizes will be awarded in each of three categories: poetry, short story and illustrated story.

Entry forms are available at Metropolitan library location, Dent said. Entries, with an official entry form or a copy of a form, are due Oct. 7, and can be turned in at any of the system's 17 libraries.

The workshop will be during National Children's Book Week, Nov. 14-20.

For more information, call Dent at 606-3837."
