The Oklahoma Daily Online Edition - Peculiar package leads to library evacuation: "Officials evacuated Bizzell Memorial Library on Tuesday after a suspicious package was found, said Sgt. Gary Robinson of the OU Department of Public Safety.
The package was later found to be a cash box belonging to an OU student organization.
The package belonged to Haaris Nizami, Beta Chi Theta fraternity treasurer. The box turned out to be Nizami’s cash box for the fraternity.
Nizami, accounting sophomore, said he went to the library Monday night to study. He said he walked over to Bizzell after the fraternity’s usual chapter meeting in Oklahoma Memorial Union and was carrying everything he had at the meeting.
“I had my cash box with me from chapter,” Nizami said. “And I just accidentally left it there.”
Robinson said a custodian at the library discovered the package and alerted library security who contacted the police at 7:15 a.m.
The library was evacuated soon after, and the Hazardous Devices Unit was called in, Robinson said.
Robinson said because the incident was early in the morning, there were not many people inside the building. Mostly library staff members were asked to leave, he said.
Nizami said he was concerned about his mistake.
“I can’t believe I caused a bomb scare; it was a complete accident,” he said."
