Time Line of Banned Books in the United States
Neat little timeline covering banned books in the US (or by Americans). By no means comprehensive, but interesting to see the reasons for banning titles over the centuries. If you think about it the reasons throughout time have always been pretty constant.
Titles include:
1776 The Rights of Man
1873 Comstock Laws allow for outlawing of Canterbury Tales and Lysistrata
1885 Adventures of Huckleberry Finn banned from library in Mass.
1930 US Customs seizes copies of Candide
1980 Merchant of Venice (banned in schools in Michigan)
1989 Little Red Riding Hood (banned in two California schools)
2004 America (Daily Show) banned from Wal-Mart stores

Most books that are banned do so by not getting purchased by librarians.
