SearchEngineWatch.com | New Google Librarian Center Opens

SearchEngineWatch.com | New Google Librarian Center Opens: "Phil Bradley points to what looks to be a new Google Librarian Center, where a quarterly newsletter for librarians is promised, presumably with info on how librarians can make better use of Google. Google's also seeking lesson plans from librarians on how people can use Google better. One of those tips, of course, would be to try other search engines from time-to-time. "

I use the World Wide Web too when I give reference lists for my studets' research projects.

But the question is, is it really safe for our kids to be dependent on internet research?

Safe? That's tough--searching online is only as safe as the internet is. I would prefer to address the question as "is it really smart for our kids to be dependent on internet research?" That would be a big ol' No. For anyone to be a good researcher they need to know how to use all types of resources that includes internet, paper, microform, interviews, and their own judgement. It goes a lot further than one resource is better/faster than the others--it goes into an entire realm of information and even cultural literacy. :)
