Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise Online

Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise Online: "Bartlesville's own Wendell Thompson, who is the Library Director at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, competed in and won the National Seniors/Masters Croquet Tournament this past November at West Palm Beach, Fla.

Thompson toppled 84 other competitors at the event to walk away the unanimous champion of the Seniors division.

The Seniors division is comprised of people who are 60 to 69 years of age while the Masters division is people of 70 years of age and older.

On the croquet court men and women compete as equals since the game does not require strength or speed, but rather accuracy and strategy.

With a record setting 84 participants entering the competition each competitor had to play against several other participants in pool play before being divided up into a single elimination bracket.

Thompson lost his first match during pool play by a 13-10 tote, but rallied to win each of his final matches during pool play.

With his outstanding record Thompson qualified the top seed in the single elimination bracket and even had a bye in the first round."
