Many of us who live in Edmond might not be aware of the rich history that unfolded along our now busy thoroughfares and on the land that today hosts robust retail outlets.
But for Annette Ryan that history lives and breathes in the archives of the Max Chambers Library on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Ryan, who came to Edmond in 1959 to attend Central State College, has been a library technician at UCO since 1991.
She spends her days on the library’s second floor assisting UCO students, faculty and fellow history buffs to discover that tidbit of information they need.
Whether it’s for a term paper or to satisfy some familial curiosity, Ryan always is ready to help find that key to the past.
“Research is my first love,” she said. “I just didn’t realize it until late in life.” Ryan is living proof of the old adage, “Better late then never.”...
