SUMMARY

This paraprofessional position supports the day-to-day activities of a research library.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Process incoming and outgoing Interlibrary Loan requests using OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing. Photocopy journal articles and other resources in compliance with Copyright Law. Requests articles through Document Delivery sources as needed. Monitor Document Delivery deposit accounts for expenditures and needed funds. Receive GWERD Publications packets from the EPA Technical Information Coordinator. Enter bibliographic and abstract information from GWERD Publications packets into the GWERD Pubs databases. Maintain the inventory of GWERD Publications. Distribute documents held in the GWERD Pubs inventory as requested.

Other Job Functions

Assist with ready reference and literature searches as needed.
Pick up and distribute mail for the library.
Assist with inventory of the library collection and equipment.
Assist with maintenance of the equipment.
Check out material to users.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Computer Skills: Type 50 WPM 98% Accuracy; Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Prefer experience with Microsoft Access. General knowledge of databases necessary for data entry.

Library Skills: Familiarity with OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing module and Interlibrary Loan policies and procedures. Knowledge of search strategies for OCLC WorldCat and other bibliographic databases used to locate citations and full-text of scientific journal articles.

Attitude:
Willing to work with other library staff to meet the needs of the researcher. Tenacity to find the material needed. “We do not have that” is not an acceptable answer when asked by a researcher for material.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work is performed in a research library setting and demands the employee be able to spend 90% of time entering data at a computer. The employee will also be expected to retrieve and handle books and journals. It is also required that the employee receives shipments of reports and store the shipments on shelves. This will require the ability to carry and lift up to 30 pounds.
