Jones to get elementary school librarian

The Sun | Jones Elementary to get new librarian, library
The Jones School Board voted Monday to approve a statutory waiver that would allow a first grade teacher at Jones Elementary School to take over as the library’s media specialist beginning next year.

The school will also have a new library that will double as a tornado safe room. It is scheduled to be completed in August.

Lori Travinski, the first grade teacher, is finishing her second year of teaching at the school. She will have to complete a master’s in instructional media information at the University of Central Oklahoma in three years.

Travinski said she plans to do it in two years, taking courses at UCO beginning in the fall and cramming as many as she can into the summer.

At the board meeting, Superintendent Mike Steel noted that the state accreditation officer had said there are no media specialists available. Travinski said that the school had searched for a librarian at UCO and at career fairs....
