I was talking with another librarian recently and he told me that he had a theory. That theory was--if more Librarians/Library Employees negotiated for higher salaries more often it could have a positive impact on the over all pay scale of all people in our profession.
Well, you know there just might be something to that--the linked article from ALA-APA discusses the importance of negotiating and offers a bibliography to help you gain confidence. ALA-APA: Library Worklife (although I will say I was rather dismayed to see that two of the books had "women" and "girl" in the titles--I mean come on--does negotiating have to have a gender bias?)
