Sexual predators force library policy change in Enid | The Enid News & Eagle

The Enid News & Eagle: "The library is normally a place of quiet and solitude, as patrons search for a good read or use the computer facilities.
Its those computer facilities, however, that have become a source of controversy for Public Library of Enid and Garfield County.
The possibility sexual predators are using those computers to contact children has caused the library's board to take a serious look at new Internet policies.
Many library users have been less than enthusiastic about the proposed changes.
Library Director Wilita Larrison said the board has made a proposal to change the policy on e-mail usage July 1. The change would eliminate the use of non-educational games, e-mail or chat rooms on library computers.
...
According to a police detective who talked to the board, the computers in the library were used by a known sex offender to lure a young girl to a meeting and suspected sexual activities,” Larrison said.

The change in policy is in response to a police department request to take a look at how the computers are used, require full identification before anyone could use the computers and maintain a log of all users for up to two years, she said."
