Oklahoma Literacy Summit’s

Susan M sends this libray story.

The Oklahoma Literacy Summit’s inaugural event will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005, from 9:30 to 5:00 at the Burg Auditorium at the Oklahoma City University School of Music. This event is free and open to the public.

During the summit, ABC News network correspondent Manuel Medrano, State Superintendent Sandy Garrett, State Senator Daisy Lawler, the Honorable Twyla Mason-Gray, Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane, criminal defense attorney Bill Zuhdi and many other concerned and prominent Oklahomans representing varied fields of business will discuss solutions to illiteracy. “The purpose of this summit is to bring great minds together to look at the impact illiteracy has on our state, to call attention to existing literacy programs, and to explore what can be done to more effectively address the growing impact of illiteracy on our children, our communities, and our legal system,” states Darla Zuhdi, Director and Founder.

There will be five programs which will occur during the day, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m. Seating is limited, so come early to reserve a seat. Attendees are welcome to attend one or all of the programs. Receptions will be held after several of the programs. A complete schedule of the programs offered during the Oklahoma Literacy Summit can be found by visiting http://www.oklahomacentennialbookfestival.com/summithome.asp.
