Set your calendar now for the Red Dirt Book Festival!

"The 2005 Red Dirt Book Festival: will be held at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center in Shawnee, OK, October 28-29, 2005. Free registration for the event is available through the festival website at www.reddirtbookfestival.org .

The theme for the festival is Mysterious Oklahoma, an appropriate focus for an event scheduled for Halloween weekend. More than 80 Oklahoma authors will be on hand to help solve the mysteries of writing, publishing, and enjoying Oklahoma literature.

Festival activities are organized under three, thematic headings: READ, WRITE, and TALK.

The READ sessions feature presentations designed to increase the enjoyment of reading. Authors will discuss their writing styles and read selections from their latest releases and works in progress. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

The WRITE strand offers writing workshops conducted by successful Oklahoma authors and publishers. Festival participants also have the option of submitting original, unpublished manuscripts for consideration for publishing in the 2005 Red Dirt Anthology.

In the TALK sessions, participants will discuss topics and themes of Oklahoma history, culture, and values that influence the state’s creative output. Storytellers will also entertain throughout the two-day event.

The 2005 Red Dirt Book Festival is a project of the Pioneer Library System with support from the Oklahoma Humanities Council and many businesses, organizations, and individuals in the Shawnee area.
