Wiki WorldCat (WikiD) Pilot [OCLC]

Found this via LISNews--but I want to scream KHAAAN! I had this idea at least a year ago, in fact I mentioned it to several people but they just laughed at me ...dang OCLC and their investigative network! Now I have to keep extra secret my plans for world domination as well.

Wiki WorldCat (WikiD) Pilot [OCLC]: "Beginning in September, Open WorldCat users will be able to add content to WorldCat records using wikis. The pilot will give users the ability to add comments, see comments by others and add or edit other information they know about the record.
...
OCLC will first offer this service through Open WorldCat and later expand the service to the WorldCat database in FirstSearch. Beyond FirstSearch, wikis could be added to other professional services, such as resource sharing and collection analysis, to give information professionals a direct way to affect the content of local or WorldCat cataloging records.

This is a way to extend the OCLC cataloging cooperative to include non-cataloging library professionals and patrons. This service will help member libraries encourage, solicit and manage input from their local patron community, creating interest in their library content. Benefits of the cooperative approach through OCLC allows each member to have access to the entire membership's content and creates a sense of community within WorldCat."
