Historic library in Guthrie and termites

GUTHRIE — Termites dined freely at the historic Carnegie Library for years, but the cafeteria is closing.

Officials at the library, 402 E Oklahoma Ave., said they've known about the termites for a while, but didn't have the money to address the problem.


"Taking care of a 104-year-old building presents some unique challenges,” Guthrie Museum Complex director Valerie Haynes said.

With an eye toward restoration for the state's centennial celebration later this year, they have been working to return the building that houses the library, the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and the State Capital Publishing Museum to its former glory, she said. ...
